The best beer gardens in Dortmund

In the warmer months of the year, there are some great places throughout the city where you can meet your friends to down a few cold beverages. In the city centre there’s the Alter Markt square. The pubs around the square, which is the “biggest beer garden in town”, will not only serve you something to drink, there are lots of great things to eat here too.

Football fans should really head for the Rote Erde beer garden. You’ll find it down at the Rote Erde Stadium where you get a panoramic view of the Signal Iduna Park stadium or the "Dortmunder Temple" as it is often called. Just a few minutes away is the "Spaten Garten" in the Westfalenpark. It is usually open when the weather is good and the owners then get the barbecue lit up so you can grill your own bangers and steaks if you want. Although the beer garden is in the Westfalenpark, you don’t actually have to pay any entrance fee to go there.

There are plenty of other great beer gardens in Dortmund too, including Kraftstoff in the Unionviertel, the Stadewäldchen on Saarlandstraße or the Bergmann Stehbierhalle. In the summer you can enjoy your drinks there against a backdrop of Ruhr Region charm - the Stehbierhalle is right next to the former blast furnace on PHOENIX West. A brew with  a view!
