Festival of Choirs 2021: City centre bursts into song

If you happen to be in Dortmund when hundreds of people suddenly burst into song and start swaying in time to the music, then the chances are you’re in the middle of the Festival of Choirs. 2021 sees this event taking place for the twelfth time.

Every year, more than 160 choirs and ensembles come here to take part. And they all have one thing in common: they want to make people smile with their music. And it’s all for free, too. The Festival of Choirs takes place on various stages set up throughout the city. The choirs also sing at bus-stops, in shops and in churches and you might even be serenaded on an underground train.

Listen and sing along

The singing gets started at 10 o’clock in the morning and goes on until 10 o’clock in the evening – for example on the Alter Markt square, where you can also enjoy the odd beer to oil your vocal chords in the shadow of the nearby Reinoldi Church.

By the way, the Festival of Choirs is part of the Klangvokal Music Festival.
