Mit Schmackes: Grub’s up at ex-BVB player Kevin Großkreutz‘s restaurant

Currywurst and football. Among other things, this is what the Ruhrpott is famous for and ex-BVB player, Kevin Großkreutz, has found a way to combine the two. The fans’ favourite has joined forces with restaurateur Christopher Reinecke to create Mit Schmackes in the popular Saarlandstrasse quarter, serving currywurst with a generous portion of football on the side.

Keep up with the sports news as you tuck into dishes like Ruhrpott Carpaccio 2.0: Double Currywurst with Fries & Side Salad. Choose from a menu of traditional favourites, with recipes taken straight out of Granny‘s cookbook and many christened with imaginative names in local dialect like Malocher-Pfanne – which roughly translates as “grafter’s fry up” – and original Dortmund pfefferpotthast stew. Yum! Traditional Westphalian fare at its finest.

Inseparable: football and beer

Add football to this winning formula and what you have is a dream team. With the Stadium Snack bratwurst or the Three-Man Strike Force schnitzel trio, the industrial chic decor punctuated with catchwords like Kick-off and Visitor Block, or an original Großkreutz Borussia jersey adorning the wall, it goes without saying that all BVB matches and all other premier and second division Bundesliga matches that don’t happen to clash are all shown live.

So, how best to round off an evening of great food and football? With a nice, cold beer, of course! Either at the bar or at one of the live brewing events, where guests can get a crash course in the art of brewing. Cheers!
